Entertainment & Exercise Collide in AIDS Walk in Las Vegas on April 25

Entertainment and exercise collide for a good cause at the 20th annual AIDS Walk Las Vegas on April 25.

The event, starring Penn & Teller as grand marshals, gets under way at 8 a.m. at the World Market Center.

The illusionists once again challenge the 8,000 or so walkers to take their “Team Challenge,” vowing to match all donations. Last year, P&T raised more than $120,000, and the entire walk raised about $550,000.

Cher’s director and choreographer, Doriana Sanchez, will perform at this year’s event, as will Peepshow’s Josh Strickland, and DJ Axis.

The walk, AFAN’s largest fundraiser, helps support those infected with HIV and AIDS in Southern Nevada.

Although registration is free, a minimum donation of $35 per person is encouraged. It includes an official AIDS Walk Las Vegas T-shirt. Afanlv.org

Naked Yoga Stretches Out to Las Vegas

Naked men’s yoga classes have been becoming increasingly more popular, spreading rapidly across the United States, especially in Las Vegas,  where registered yoga teacher David Oliphant has been regularly filling his eight-to-twelve member classes at various Las Vegas locations with both straight and gay/bi men. NudeYoga

For $20, Wednesday and Friday classes take place at 7:30 p.m. and they also have a donation-only “weekend recovery restorative yoga” class also at 10 a.m. on Sunday for those on a budget.

What if you’re not a dude?  Oliphant says he’s been receiving many requests for women and couples’ naked yoga and that classes for those groups are being developed.  Visit www.mensnakedyoga.com or call 7750842-4990 for locations and further details.

‘Stripper 101’ Classes Spin-‘N-Slide into Las Vegas

Being naughty in Sin City has just gained another notch for its bedpost.  In a bid to conjure up and offer new and exciting exercise routines to stay fit – and, in the process, find a creative solution to counteract our stagnant economy – many Las Vegas boutique gyms have begun offering pole dancing classes.   pole-dancing

Capitalizing on this trend, Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas has a new twist: Offering its hotel guests and local residents the opportunity to experience soothing, soul-renewing music in a dimly-lit, swank atmosphere, the refreshing camaraderie of a hassle free, glow-in-the-dark pole date, and, as a innocuous by-product- be transformed svelte and fit in their new “Stripper 101″ class in the V Theatre in the Miracle Mile Shops.   Glow pole dancing has arrived.

Catering to the budding pro and recreational spin-‘n-slider to-be, this women only class (sorry guys) consists of a full sexy striptease cardio workout in a Las Vegas nightclub atmosphere.   With no prior experience required,  training classes conducted by Pole Experts provide how-to’s for turning lap dancing tricks, er…techniques (ala colorful boas), proper pole handling methods, and, since this is in Las Vegas, after all- cocktails are served for the ultimate cool-down.

Think this is merely for show-and-tell?  Think again- the full body workout burns off 300 to 400 calories per hour (minus the cocktail).

The growing socially acceptable classes are rapidly become the in meeting place for bachelorette and birthday parties too.  The draw is in part because of it’s inferred naughty vibe, but also because this is an exercise class that doesn’t force exercising by using traditional methods.

Class reservations are recommended (click for info), though, and attendees must be 18 years of age or older.  Packages, which can include commemorative T-shirts and even group and individual souvenir photos, range from $40 – $60. And, for the price of a ticket, those who want to celebrate the day but not trip-the-hip-fantastic may elect to crash the classes to just cheer on their friends and family.
