Boxer Mike Tyson Marries in Las Vegas

Boxer Mike Tyson married longtime girlfriend Lakiha “KiKi” Spicer over the weekend.  They took out a marriage license early Saturday night and were by themselves when they exchanged vows at La Bella Wedding Chapel at the Las Vegas Hilton on Saturday night.

Spicer, in her 30s, was linked to Tyson at the time his second marriage ended in divorce.  She was in the news in 2002 when he was charged along with her mother and brother, on allegations of defrauding $224,000 from a Philadelphia community college.

The marriage, Tyson’s third, came less than two weeks after his 4-year-old daughter by another woman died accidentally after she hanged herself on a treadmill in Phoenix, Arizona.

Entertainer Danny Gans’ Death Linked to “Drug Store Heroin”

Clark County Coroner Mike Murphy ruled yesterday that Danny Gans’ sudden death on May 1 in his Henderson, Nevada home at the age of 52 was accidental caused by acute toxic levels of the prescription painkiller clinically known as hydromorphone.    The drug – used to relieve moderate to severe chronic pain – interacted with his other heart and blood disease drugs.

“Mr. Gans’ health conditions placed him at greater risk for heart irregularities, and the hydromorphone was a factor that exacerbated those risks,” said Murphy.

The drug otherwise known as Dilaudid, is a highly addictive opiate nicknamed “drug store heroin” that is two to eight times more potent than morphine and  a drug not meant for long-term usage.  Drug side effects include high dose tolerance leading to dependence, troubled and slowed breathing, and impairment of mental and physical performance.  It is such a potent and powerful central-acting prescription drug that it can’t be called in to the pharmacy like most other drugs, but rather the prescription has to be handwritten and personally delivered.

Some contend that the prescription was not a recent one, rather just an old prescription that Gans kept in his medicine cabinet.

This is also the same drug that was a top favorite of iconic entertainer Elvis Presley, who also died young at 42.  Although Dilaudid was not found in the many drugs discovered in Elvis’ system when he died, he was quoted in the book “Elvis: The Final Years,” as telling the wife of Red West, a member of Elvis’ inner circle, “I’ve tried them all, honey, and believe me, Dilaudid is the best.”

New Internet Child Pornography Law in Nevada

On Monday, Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons signed into a law a bill that makes it a felony to intentionally view child pornography with “specific intent” over the Internet.   Before the new law, Nevada could prosecute those who downloaded images into their computer, but not those who just viewed them.

Under Nevada Assembly Bill 88, a person who intentionally views photographs or films depicting someone younger than 16 in “sexual conduct” is guilty of a felony, punishable by one to six years in prison.

In addition to these penalties, the new law also allows children used in pornography to file civil lawsuits to recover damages from those who depicted them in films or photos.

They can recover as much as $150,000 in damages, plus lawyer fees and cost.  The person who filmed or photographed them in pornography does not have to be convicted of a crime before being sued.

Las Vegas Adult Entertainment Club Class Action Lawsuit Claims Taxi, Limo Company Extortion, Illegal Kickbacks

A class action lawsuit filed on June 2 alleges a wide-ranging extortion scheme involving Las Vegas’ most prominent adult entertainment clubs and taxi and limousine companies.  The suit, which was filed in federal court in Las Vegas, alleges that taxi and limousine companies extorted more than $40 million in illegal kickbacks from local strip clubs.

According to the legal complaint, Las Vegas taxi and limousine drivers demanded payments from the clubs of as much as $100 per male passenger.  If the clubs refused to pay, the drivers would simply divert passengers to a different club. The lawsuit claims that the kickback scheme hurts Las Vegas at a time when the city is already suffering economically.

“Vegas has been one of the top tourist destinations in America for families, but its position is being threatened,” says Jay Edelson, lead attorney for the lawsuit.  “This is precisely the type of activity that keeps families away.”

As taxi drivers prefer to pick up men who are more likely to go to strip clubs, the suit claims that families and women were snubbed by drivers and found it hard to hail a cab at  night.  The suit also claims that millions of dollars in tax revenue have gone unpaid to the local, state, and federal government.

The allegations of a wide-ranging extortion scheme have been hotly discussed locally.  An recent expose by George Knapp, a nationally recognized Las Vegas  investigative reporter, found that cabbies routinely lied to  passengers—telling them that certain clubs are undesirable or unsafe (“riddled with bullet holes” was one description) in hopes of diverting them to a “paying” location.  After Nevada state  legislators attempted to put an end to this practice, the cab drivers responded by flexing their muscles.  They shut down the Strip and threatened to crash ground transportation at the airport.

“The vast majority of taxi and limo drivers are honest and hardworking people, but this minority has a stranglehold on the city,” says Edelson. “It is finally time to put this practice to an end.”

The suit is being brought on behalf of Theodore Trapp who lives in Southern California, and as a nationwide class. The suit names more than two dozen defendants including, Deja Vu Showgirls, Spearmint Rhino, Cheetah’s, Yellow Cab Co. and Checker Cab Co. It also references Tony Chong, an individual taxi driver who, according to the suit, has publicly admitted his involvement in the extortion scheme.
