Las Vegas was one of the finalists in the United States Tennis Association’s Best Tennis Town contest, but did not finish in the top three.
The winner was Midland, Mich., with the first runner-up going to Ojai, Calif., and Independence, Kan., was named second runner-up. The announcements were made earlier this month at the U.S. Open.
As one of seven honorable mentions, Las Vegas will receive $2,000 worth of tennis equipment. No word on when the equipment will be received or where it will be used.
The competition was organized to spotlight towns that demonstrated a commitment to promoting the sport.
