Las Vegas Gay Pride is built around two key events: the Las Vegas Pride Parade, held on Friday, April 30, at 8 pm; and the Las Vegas Pride Festival, which takes place the following day, Saturday, May 1, from noon until 10 pm. Keep in mind, though, that there are a number of smaller gatherings and parties leading up to the big weekend – here’s a full calendar

Las Vegas’ first Gay Pride took place in 1983 – there’s a nice synopsis of the event’s history on the Pride Las Vegas website.

More than 10,000 people attended in 2009.

Las Vegas performer Frank Marino acts will be the Grand Marshal on Friday during the Gay Pride Parade in downtown Las Vegas.

The Pride Parade takes place in downtown Las Vegas at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 30. The parade route is along 4th Street from Charleston Blvd. to Ogden Avenue.

In 2009, organizers added a Parade Pre-Party, which takes place on Friday at 5:30 pm in the pedestrianized Fremont Experience section of downtown’s historic Fremont Street.

The Las Vegas Pride Festival is set at the Clark County Government Center Amphitheater at 500 S. Grand Parkway on Sat., May 1 from noon until 10. This action-packed, all-day event always features a slew of notable entertainers.

Of course, additionally, numerous gay bars as well as gay-popular restaurants, hotels, and shops have special events and parties throughout Pride Week. Please check local gay papers and websites, such as Q Vegas and GayLasVegas.com, for details.

Bette Midler Says Sayonara to Las Vegas, Receives Bitch-Slap

Entertainer Bette Midler on Sunday gave her final wave and curtain call – for now – for her show, “The Showgirl Must Go On,” ending her two-run at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

The Devine Miss M was honored during the finale from a variety of well-wisher cameos, including Marie Osmond, dissing Donny; Gladys Knight, Pip-singing “Memories,” and, via video, Celine Dion, who is reportedly returning to Caesars Palace soon.

But minutes before going on for her grand entrance, she arrived to ride the elevator up to the stage and a Cher impersonator, Steven Wayne, from Frank Marino’s “Divas Las Vegas” show at Imperial Palace showed up holding a sign aloft that read: “Get off My Stage, Bitch.”

The friendly rub came after 50 members of Midler’s cast and crew attended Marino’s show last week.

Annie Duke Faces Rival Joan Rivers Today at Las Vegas Charity Poker Tournament

Fans of NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice may need to do a double take on May 27th after seeing Annie Duke join forces with archrival Joan Rivers at a charity poker tournament today in Las Vegas.

Online poker site www.UltimateBet.net announced the sponsorship of the “Sucking out on the Rivers” charity poker tournament in support of Refugees International. Annie Duke will be hosting the event alongside Frank Marino, a well-known Joan Rivers impersonator.  Nearly all of the top poker pros in Vegas are already on board to play in the charity tournament.

“I think that after this poker tournament, the real Joan Rivers will quickly realize that poker players are good-naturedAnnieDuke people – professional people with respected occupations and families – who really want to change the lives of those less fortunate,” stated Annie Duke. “As poker players, we’re all banding together, not just to prove a point to Joan, but to actually change the world.”

While the charity poker tournament will be co-hosted by a Joan Rivers impersonator, the real Joan Rivers went head-to-head with Annie Duke on the most recent season of Celebrity Apprentice. The often abrasive and brash comedienne told Annie, on camera, that all poker players were white trash and that none of them had last names, suggesting that those who love poker are automatically linked to organized crime.  Rivers’ opinion has drawn the ire of many in the poker world.

The world’s top poker players and several Hollywood celebrities are slated to play in the charity poker event today to show that there’s a lot of good that comes from poker. Over 20 Joan Rivers impersonators will also be playing in the event and each one will have a bounty on his or her head. Poker fans can secure their spot in the tournament for $200 and the No Limit Texas Hold’em tourney features rebuys and add-ons to help the prize pool grow even higher.

Although all the prize money will go to the winner, half of the winnings are being voluntarily directed to charity. While Nevada gaming laws prohibit money being given directly from the prize pool to charity, the winner may volunteer to donate half of their winnings to the charity in keeping with what had been done in previous charity events hosted by UltimateBet.net.

The “Sucking out on the Rivers” Charity Event, sponsored by www.UltimateBet.net, DeepStacks University, Hard Rock Poker Lounge, and WSOP Academy, gets underway today, May 27th at 6 p.m. at the Hard Rock Casino Poker Lounge.

‘La Cage’ Impersonator Show at Riviera Abrubtly Ends 23-Year Run on Las Vegas Strip

It’s been a very colorful and extremely popular 20-year run for the female impersonator show “Evening at La Cage” at the Riviera in Las Vegas.  Since 1985 the show has gone on with non-stopped passion, headed up by headliner and frankmarino1“Mistress of Ceremonies” Frank Marino.  A cast of female impersonators nightly duplicated every mannerism and nuance of Cher, Britney Spears, Madonna, Bette Midler, and Michael Jackson.

Last night, February 10, at 9 p.m. the iconic Las Vegas Strip show abruptly ended.

Only memories remain for the fourth longest running show in Las Vegas.

The cast and crew of the show were notified by owner Norbert Aleman that he regrettably was being forced to shut down the long-running production.

There were weeklong negotiations with Riviera executives and the show’s producers, but because of falling ticket sales and no sign of an immediate recovery for hotel bookings, it was decided to close the show.

Frank Marino, who played the show’s colorful Mistress of Ceremonies as Joan Rivers, held the title of Las Vegas’ longest-running headliner. He was presented with a key to the city on “Frank Marino Day” on Feb. 1, 2006.  Additionally, Frank has a star on the Strip’s Walk of Stars and Frank Marino Drive in honor of him.  He also appeared in “Miss Congeniality 2,” which was filmed in Las Vegas and authored the book “His Majesty the Queen.”

Marino said he was expecting the closure because of falling audience numbers. After a monthlong vacation, he says he’ll start work on his “ultimate drag show” he’s been working on for several months.

Also let go last night were actors Lane Lassiter, who played Michael Jackson; Steven Wayne, who played Cher and was at the superstar singer’s premiere last year at the Caesars Palace Coliseum at her invitation; Ryan Zink, who performed as Reba McEntire; Brent Allen as Bette Midler; and Crystal Woods as Diana Ross, along with Frank’s understudy James Henderson.

Norbert, who also produces the sexy topless adult cabaret revue “Crazy Girls” at the Riviera, says that revue will continue. “Crazy Girls” has been on extended hiatus since Christmas, and that lineup of eight topless beauties will reopen this Wednesday.

News of “La Cage” closing follows the announcement that “Folies Bergere,” the topless revue at the Tropicana, will close in March after a 49-year run.
