Company Kitchen & Pub Morphs into Las Vegas Lounge

Pure Management Group has announced its intention to convert Company Kitchen & Pub House at the Luxor in Las Vegas into Company Lounge, “a casual nightlife venue.”

This is the second such change for the 11,000 square-foot venue, which opened in November 2007 as Company American Bistro. Originally helmed by Chef Adam Sobel (formerly of Restaurant Guy Savoy, currently executive chef of RM Seafood), the über-chic, ski lodge-inspired venue’s opening celebrity investor lineup included such Hollywood luminaries as Nick Lachey, Nicky Hilton and Wilmer Valderrama. Following Chef Sobel’s March 2008 departure—as well as that of Top Chef’s foam-of-famer Marcel Vigneron—Company briefly shut down to transform into the more approachable, American tapas iteration.

A PMG representative reports that the Company Lounge schedule has cut back from the resto’s Wednesday through Sunday, 5 p.m.-late, to just “Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings.”

Las Vegas Illusionist Criss Angel Plans Revolting Trick

Luxor headliner Criss Angel is up to what many would say is a callous, dirty trick.   Courting controversy once again, this time it’s for a stunt that’s likely to shock, if not offend, many U.S. troops and their families.

Angel, the star of Cirque du Soleil’s “Criss Angel Believe” playing at the Luxor in Las Vegas, plans to open Season 5 of his “Mindfreak” on A&E television August 12 by walking over numerous improvised explosive devices (IEDs) when filming the episode at Edwards Air Force Base in California.

IEDs are deployed as roadside bombs in the Iraqi and Afghanistan wars, responsible for tragically killing thousands of servicemen and civilians.

Angel says the stunt will be more dangerous than anything he’s ever performed; entailing him to tread gently over not one, but seven levels of the lethal, explosive mines.

Critics are revolting, not sympathetic with Angel, blasting comments ranging from “just plaint tacky” to saying that if his psychic powers are that great that he’d be more useful in combat zones saving lives.

Michael Jackson Acts in Las Vegas Get Tribute Style Facelifts

Michael Jackson’s death has caused Las Vegas impressionists and comedians to scurry and quickly alter their acts, turning satirical scenes into sincere tributes. TerryFator3

Mirage headliner Terry Fator said he would cut a segment where he dresses up as Jackson and asks a cowboy puppet named Walter for country music lessons, where the cowboy is a little wary of the superstar.

Golden Nugget headliner Gordie Brown is changing his Jackson impression of the “Billie Jean” song that has a parody of jokes about the singer having body parts fall off after too much plastic surgery.

“American Superstars,” which features Frederick Henry performing at the Stratosphere, is looking for a way to pay a serious tribute to Jackson.

Carrot Top’s publicist, Steve Flynn, said the Luxor comedian’s crew has already started editing the show-closing rock sequence which features Jackson’s music.  The comedian has removed all jokes that made fun of Jackson, but kept in a moment where he strikes a Jackson pose in front of an industrial fan, repositioning it as a tribute.

Transformers Take Over the Luxor on Las Vegas Strip

A huge wrap of the Transformers is currently covering an entire side of a Las Vegas casino hotel, which looks like the film’s main bot Optimus Prime is bursting out of the 500-feet-high pyramid-shaped building. The Optimus Prime image is over 100,000 square feet.

The wrap takeover on the Luxor, which is the world’s largest building wrap to date, is in promotion of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, the upcoming sequel to 2007’s Transformers. Directed by Michael Bay, the sequel sees returning stars Shia LeBeouf, Megan Fox, and of course, Optimus Prime and his band of Autobots. Revenge of the Fallen hits theaters June 24, 2009.

‘Science of Snot’ on Gross Display at Las Vegas Kids’ Museum

Many kids – and many adults, for that matter – love talking about their body “unmentionables,” sometime even celebrating the gross nature and experience of all.  Barf, burps and flatulence speak are all fair game to the truly uninhibited- IF you dare.

Now, “Grossology,” essentially the study of body ickiness, is on raw display at the Lied Discovery Children’s Museum in Las Vegas with enough exhibits on bodily secretions, noises and odors to make any grade-schooler or adult giggle uncontrollably.

The exhibit is based on the popular children’s books with the same name, which are normally not used in classrooms but are available in public school libraries, says Mary Pike, the director of science and foreign language education for the Clark County School District in Las Vegas.

Pike said teachers appreciated how the gross can be so engrossing to so many.

But, before you parents get the wrong idea (or a case of the giggles), not all bodily functions are explained.  Thankfully, human reproduction – SEX – is not part of “Grossology” exhibit or in books.

By not covering sex, “Grossology” author Sylvia Branzei-Velasquez says she could be more irreverent and whimsical in her approach.

“There is nothing very controversial about barf or poo or scabs,” she says.

For those children and adults that still can’t get their fill of gross stuff, they can also see the real human body in full gorey detail at “Bodies…The Exhibition” at the Luxor, 3900 Las Vegas Blvd., www.luxor.com.   It provides a morgue-like display of preserved organs and skeltons.

“Grossology” is open now and continues through September 7 at the Lied Discovery Children’s Museum, 833 Las Vegas Blvd.  For tickets and times, surf on over to www.ldcm.org
