Who will Headline Paris Las Vegas Theater?

The 1,450-seat Theatre des Arts in the Paris Hotel & Casino has sat vacant since “The Producers” closed 18 months ago- a very long wait for such a prominent piece of Las Vegas real estate.

The latest rumor is that long-running Las Vegas entertainer Barry Manilow will jump ship from the Las Vegas Hilton at the end of this year. Hilton officials acknowledge they’ve heard that talk, but say no decisions have been reached.

Other rumored candidates have fallen by the wayside or gone elsewhere. A Marie Osmond daytime TV show is on ice. A live version of “America’s Got Talent” is going to Planet Hollywood, moving in with “Peepshow” for at least 10 weeks starting Oct. 7, with none other than Jerry Springer hosting.

Mother’s Day Ala Las Vegas Style

There are some holidays that go hand-in-hand with the fabulous glitz and glitter that is Las Vegas.  New Years Eve, any three-day weekend, any day that let’s you blow off fireworks from the top of the parking garages, just to name a few.  But there’s one day that may not be what you consider a natural fit with the Las Vegas economy – and it really, truly, is the most natural of all holiday destination matches – Mother’s Day in Las Vegas. mothersday

Looking to give Mom a few days off the clock?  Perhaps a room with a (Strip) view, room service and sunshine by the pool may give her the chance to dial down the stress and forget her carpool duties for a while.

Want to spoil Mom and give her a pamper-by-numbers opportunity?  How about a luxury suite at the Trump Hotel along with the Mother’s Day Spa Package at The Spa at Trump?  This package includes a facial, pedicure and spa robe for $179.

But if you would like your mom’s spa day to do more than celebrate your special lady – how about the Trump Gold Package?  Donate $25 or more to the American Heart Association (via the Trump Hotel) and receive a Gold Body Scrub, Gold Facial, Trump Massage and Gold Bar Box Set for $189.

Restaurants in Las Vegas will be offering many unique luncheon and dining opportunities that will work for any budget.

At $50 or more per person, the Paris Hotel and Casino’s premier restaurant, the Eiffel Tower Restaurant, will offer open early on Sunday, May 10 for a Mother’s Day lunch brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.  Reservations required.

Or for a few dollars less, about $35 per person (special pricing for children), ENVY the Steakhouse at the Renaissance Las Vegas will also offer a brunch for Mom’s on May 10 complete with mimosa’s and Wes Winters at the piano.

With options ranging from Rumjungle to Pamplemousse, it will be possible to wine and dine Mom regardless of what type of meal she may be interested in and the budget available for the celebration.

So give Mom a chance to break away from the every day routine and have a very grand Vegas Mother’s Day.

Captain Kirk Beams Down to Las Vegas in ShowWest Starship

showwestBefore Chris Pine walks the red carpet during the May Star Trek movie premier this May, he will first be attending the ShoWest Final Night Banquet on Thursday, April 2 to accept the ShoWest Male Star of Tomorrow award.

Past winners of ShoWest Male Star of Tomorrow have included Emile Hirsch, Shia LaBeouf, Heath Ledger, and Matt Damon.

ShoWest is an annual event for motion picture professionals and theatre owners.  This year it will be held at Bally’s and Paris Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas from March 30 through April 2.

Although current economic trends have cut into the entertainment budget of most families, ShoWest provides an opportunity for theatre owners and operators to find enhancements and offer incentives that will not only bring those crowds back but keep them at the theatre longer.

Daredevils’ Fly Las Vegas New Year’s Sky

Some may think it wasn’t as impressive as the descent of the flying Elvi, but many visitors to Las Vegasrobbiemaddisonmotocyclejpeg on New Year’s Eve 2009 chose to line the spectator viewing area’s of two different motorcycle jump exhibitions.

Las Vegas once again offered Red Bull motorcycle rider Robbie Maddison on a ramp to New Year’s revelers.  In 2008 Maddison broke the Guinness World Record with a jump that was longer than a football field at the Rio Hotel.  But in 2009 it was the vertical distance that proved a challenge.  As part of an ESPN presentation,  Maddison jumped his motorcycle to the top of the Arc de Triomphe in front of the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas.  He launched his bike 120 feet up in the air to land on the Arc, took a moment to enjoy the view, and then came back via a 50-foot free fall drop to his landing ramp.

The crowd at the no-charge event went wild with their oohs and aahs, thrilled to have the opportunity to see Maddison in action.

robbieknieveljpeg1But that was quite a different feeling from the fans up the Strip at the Mirage, where 46-year-old Robbie Knievel had just set up his ramps for his motorcycle jump.  His motorcycle jump attempt came exactly 41 years after Knievel’s father, Evel Knievel, broke most of the bones in his body with a jump at Caesars Palace that went bad.

It was originally reported that Knievel would ride through the volcano flames in a televised event for FOX.   However, after a lengthy delay, when the final jump occurred, the ramps were actually set up in front of the volcano and the burst of flames was just pretty scenery, instead of being a formidable obstacle for the bike and rider.

As the fans disbursed there were some who wished they’d spent their evening more towards the South end of the Strip.  But Vegas has a way of making even the mundane fun and the story will last longer than the video will.  Besides, there’s always next year.
