Ah, yes, the hot, sweltering dog days of summer are blanketing Las Vegas. Is this really a great time to pack a picnic for the grass and attend a show production at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park in the foothills beyond Red Rock in Las Vegas? You bet it is!
Until August 29, Las Vegas’ Super Summer Theatre is producing “Once on This Island,” billed as adding “catchy Caribbean flavor” to a Little Mermaid-esque fairy tale. It’s the song-and-dance creation of Tony Award-winning team Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime and Anastasia).

Ah, yes, Easter Sunday arrives anew in Las Vegas. With no shortage of the fluffy, furry-tailed creatures constantly prowling the Playboy Club in the Palms Casino & Hotel and just cruisin’ the Strip, egg hunting ops always abound in the City of Entertainment.
Las Vegas Backstage Access scoured the many valley activities and found a unique Easter Sunday event – the real day. It features wild, yet PG-rated fun times of a natural kind for children at the Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, an enjoyable 18 mile drive west of Las Vegas off of Charleston Boulevard. They will have their second annual egg hunt on Sunday starting at 10 a.m.
“We had a very good turnout last year with over 300 kids,” says park ranger Scott Egy. According to Egy, they’ll have “well over a 100 plastic eggs” that will be hidden for this year’s hunt. Each egg will be numbered and at the end of the hunt, volunteers will call out numbers for children to collect a prize. The eggs will be the dentist-friendly kind, not filled with candy because of the wildlife frequenting the area, Egy says.
The park has a $5 entrance fee per vehicle and will open at 8 a.m. Attendees may bring their own baskets for the hunt, but bags will also be available for children to color if they don’t have a basket. 702-875-4141
